A youth has died of high altitude sickness while his wife is missing as they visited the historical and touristic Memepokhari. The lake is situated at an altitude of 4800 meters.
Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office Prakash Shrimal said that 26-year-old Buddha Tamang of Lalbandi, Sarlahi died of high altitude sickness while his wife Sharmila Tamang,24, is missing from Sandhu in Bensisahar Municipality-10.
According to police, five people including the couple had gone to visit the lake. Three of them are currently taking shelter in a sheepfold, but bad weather is hampering their rescue. Others reportedly include Sharmila’s father, her brother, and her cousin. They are presently at a place called Cherbo at an altitude of about 4,000 meters.
It takes around three days to walk to reach the place from Besisahar. The team left for the visit on October 2.
